"As Above, So Below" Wood Fired Tea Bowl

That Japanese Word for things that happen in the wood kiln that can't be controlled but end up enhancing the work - making it truly one of a kind.

There are several key components that make this chawan different: the way the fly ash interacts with the glaze, giving the striking yellow/blue dichotomy; the ishihaze - stone explosion- another piece that exploded sending small remnants flying throughout the kiln, but more importantly, combined with the white glaze that dripped onto the piece, looking into the chawan gives the feeling on flying high above the earth looking down onto the ocean. This could have never been predicted, nor intended for. Luck of placement and timing truly sets this chawan apart.
